What is a CLO?
CLOs are structured finance vehicles that raise money from investors by issuing two types of tranches — debt and equity — to fund the purchase of a diverse pool of underlying corporate loans.
Underlying loans
A diverse pool of broadly syndicated first-lien corporate loans forms the collateral base.
Tranched structure
Debt and equity tranches fund the purchase, each representing varying levels of risk and return to meet different investor needs.
Active management
The CLO manager actively manages these loans — selecting, trading, and monitoring credits, as in an investment fund.
